“SMART CITY” SEMINAR
With the vigorous development of technology in the digital age 4.0, messages associated with the word “smart” are becoming more and more popular. And shortly, smart cities will gradually emerge and become a development trend in society. Smart City is based on the advancement of science and technology, especially in the field of information technology, with the combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data platform to solve problems of the old urban model such as environmental pollution, traffic congestion, improving energy efficiency, etc.
Smart City aims at a great purpose to improve the quality of life of residents in that city in a more civilized and advanced direction. During the visit as well as discussing cooperation opportunities with Hoa Sen University on November 18, 2022, Professor Robyn Dowling – Dean of the School of Architecture, Design & Planning, University of Sydney (Australia), who has many years of experience in building and developing projects related to the formation of smart cities, she shared: “Sometimes Smart City is not simply about us putting technology in the city, but the outstanding problems of the city have been improved or not, a city with advanced technologies still cannot optimize efficiency, not balance, even cause unsafe and lead to waste.”
In addition, she also shared about the characteristics of a smart city, a place that combines the development not only of digital technology but also of other synchronous development factors. First, a smart city must be a city with the potential of a developed economy and a center to attract laborers to live and work. Secondly, this is a city that must be equipped with public utility connections such as wifi, charging stations, interactive systems and utility usage signs in a convenient and smart way. Third, when applying the Smart city model, it is to direct people to solutions to save natural resources and optimize the application of technology to the living environment. Fourth, a smart city is a place with a modern and convenient transportation system and infrastructure for people. Fifth, a smart city is a place where people – residents have a progressive view of lifestyle, health, and culture, are knowledgeable about technology and thrift, do not waste – they have a sense of cooperation. build a safe living environment and keep them happy.
In the modern city, lighting is an important issue in urban architectural planning, moreover, smart lighting is a remarkable improvement and application of technology. Smart lighting is an innovative way to light technology-integrated indoor and outdoor lighting systems with dimmers, sensors, virtual assistant technology, etc. Mr. Jonathan Trouillon (General Director of lighting equipment company Kobi Lighting Studio, VN) said that “using a smart lighting system will bring economic values, save costs and be very effective. Installing a reasonable smart lighting system will lead to sustainable urban development. Smart lighting brings convenience, ease, and safety for people to operate. Mr. Jonathan Trouillon (General Director of lighting equipment company Kobi Lighting Studio, VN) said that “using a smart lighting system will bring economic values, save costs and be very effective. Installing a reasonable smart lighting system will lead to sustainable urban development. At the same time, architectures with lighting applications must be really balanced and should not be abused, sometimes the use of too many lights (for fear of being expensive) will cause light pollution (e.g. light pollution). blue light), lots of radiation…”
Cost is also an issue that investors and project managers are concerned about when planning smart cities because the cost is many times higher than normal lighting systems.
Another basic principle for a smart city is the integration and application of “just enough” technology, not flaunting resources on the wrong principle and redundant functions of devices.
