Guidelines for the procedure and process of defending a master’s thesis for students in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Arts in English (MAE), and Master of Arts in Tourism Service Management and Travel (MAT) programs at the Postgraduate Institute & Leadership, Hoa Sen University

1 | The expected announcement will be made in January, March, May, July, September, and November-9-11 every year | – Announcement of the plan to organize the Thesis Defense Committee to students (through email channels, website, etc.). – Students are proactive in finding topics, with guidance from instructors, or they can refer to the proposed list provided by the Postgraduate Education and Leadership Institute in the List of Thesis Supervisors in the fields of Business Administration or English Language. – Provide information on the requirements for defending the thesis proposal and the related forms for students. ** Master’s Thesis Defense Requirements: 1.The student has completed the training program (fulfilling the credit accumulation requirements for all courses, except for the thesis course) and has an overall GPA of 5.5 or above. 2. Meets the foreign language proficiency requirement according to the training regulations applicable to the course. (Refer to the Foreign Language Certificate Conversion for Master’s Degree Program here) 3. 2 | 30 DAYS Before the scheduled date of the Council’s meeting. | – Register and provide information on the registration form provided by the Postgraduate Institute & Leadership. – Send a hard copy (05 copies – template 07) and a PDF file of the relevant forms, including all required signatures as requested by the responsible specialist before the registration deadline ends. – Prepare a presentation slide for the thesis defense day (Powerpoint file – not required to be sent to the Postgraduate Institute & Leadership). – Supplement any certificates of published papers in journals or practical requests from companies or organizations (if any). | Students | Students submit the required forms under the section “Relevant Documents” to the Postgraduate Institute & Leadership |
3 | 20 DAYS Before the scheduled date of the council meeting. | – Verify the students’ records, compile a list of eligible students to participate in the Council, and submit it to the Program Director for approval. If any student does not meet the criteria, inform them and remove their name from the defense list for this session. – Based on the topics and supervising professors, the Program Director proposes members to participate in the Master’s Thesis Defense Council to make decisions.. – Send the thesis topics of the students as well as evaluation reports to all members of the Council. – Develop a detailed plan, determine the timing of the Council, and send information to students and all Council members. | Postgraduate Institute & Leadership | |
4 | Organizing the Master’s Thesis Defense Council | Master’s Thesis Defense Council – Students present in the order specified within the allotted time (20 minutes) and answer questions from the Council (10 minutes). – After all students have presented, the Council convenes in private to evaluate and assign grades based on predetermined criteria outlined in the evaluation form. The results are then announced to the students. –The Council’s secretary prepares the minutes of the defense session, including all relevant details and signatures of the Council members. These minutes, along with the evaluation forms, are sent back to the responsible specialist at the Postgraduate Institute & Leadership Division for archival purposes. | Members of the Thesis Defense Committee & Students | |
