Applying Cognitive Linguistics to teaching vocabulary to EFL learners<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teaching Vocabulary has been one of the main issues in English language teaching and learning. EFL teachers in Vietnam, in particular, are now using different vocabulary teaching methods in their teaching. This report is doing part of this job differently. It discusses three CL principles for teaching Vocabulary for Vietnamese learners of English, namely the study of categorization, prototype, and metaphor. The implications of these principles in the EFL learning environment like Vietnamese context are applicable and practical.\u00a0 The report will present some of the useful suggestions for EFL teachers to follow.<\/p>\n

Tran Tin Nghi is the English lecturer and Dean of Faculty of Foreign Languages, Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry. His main interests include tools development for Computer-Based Language Teaching (CBLT): linguistics research and applications, and English for Specific Purposes (ESP): design and methodologies. His publications include 1 book, English for Accounting (2011), 10 \u00a0articles in journals and conferences proceedings.<\/p>\n
