The Faculty of Languages and International Cultures informs 3 classes of English Language Studies students that have registered for the Project 2 course in semester II (2022 – 2023) about the second workshop in the framework of the Project 2 course.

Information of the workshop:

• Topic: Analysing Primary Data
• Time: 15:30 pm – 18:00 pm | Thursday, June 1st, 2023

Project 2 course with the name “Project on processing specialized data�?is a part of English Language Studies major training program. This course is designed with the goal of helping students to initially conduct scientific research, a very important activity and always encouraged for university students.

This is an extra course that you can take in the program, so we hope you will attend fully and on time.

At 6:00 pm on May 19th, 2023, the Faculty of Languages and International Cultures will organize the Episode 4 of the Webinar series [Student’s Mind – Student’s Life]. The topic of this month is BRIDGING THE GAP: INTEGRATING ENGLISH TEACHING THEORIES AND PRACTICES

The Webinar is honored to have the participation of three students, who are studying English Languages Studies at the Faculty of Languages and International Cultures – Hoa Sen University.

In this webinar, the speakers will share their learning experiences as students majoring in English Teaching. Teaching theories and their application to classroom will also be revealed in this sharing session. We hope that they will be useful knowledge so that you can apply them into your personal growth becoming an English teacher.

The professional devevlopment workshop, organized by the Faculty of International Languages ​​and Cultures, aims at improving the scientific research skills and creating a forum for academic exchange among lecturers. The #8 workshop are held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

At Workshop # 8, Dr Lê Đào Thanh Bình An will be back to introduce the basics of the two theories and their key concepts developed by Pierre Bourdieu and Basil Bernstein, two of the most influential sociologists of the twentieth century. The introduction will include some examples and suggestions on how these can apply in educational research. Hopefully, the session will be a valuable experience for all participants. 

Dr Nguyễn Phương Liên, Faculty of Logistics- International Trade, HSU will continue the session with the instruction on how to undertake the basics of quantitative data management and analysis, using STATA.

Workshop # 8 also closes the research training sessions to kick off the practice series, starting with Workshop # 9 where participants will share research ideas or topics and form research teams to start working towards these topics.

The workshop is presented by our distinguished guest speaker, Dr Nguyễn Th�?Hồng Nhung with the topic: Writing for scholarly publication in educational research. 

Dr Nguyễn Th�?Hồng Nhung is doing research in Australia. She had been a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Languages- International Cultures before working for her Ph.D. in Australia. Dr Nguyễn engaged in a variety of funded research projects and had a large number of publications in high-quality academic journals and publishers. She is currently a member of The Languages and Cultures Network for Australian Universities. 

With extensive experience in English language teaching, research practice and peer review, Dr Nguyễn Th�?Hồng Nhung should ignite an invaluable discussion and contribute valuable insights to Workshop # 6. 

The workshop is expected to be useful for lecturers doing research for publications, students doing MA degrees or undertaking research projects and those who plan to undertake doctoral studies since understanding and knowing how to write a journal article helps with thesis writing.  

Together with Dr Nguyễn Th�?Hồng Nhung is the presence of lecturers and researchers who have experience in the field of publication, including Dr Trì Hoàng Đăng, Dr Nguyễn Phương Liên, Dr Trần Ngọc Tiến, Dr Trần Văn Dương, Dr Lê Đào Thanh Bình An. Hopefully, with a strong group of experienced writers, the discussion of the day will be thorough and insightful.  

Workshop # 6 aims to help enhance research skills and build a community of research practice as a part of professional development to make Vietnamese identity in international research publication possible.

The Faculty of Languages- International Cultures is honoured to welcome all interested participants back to Professional Development Workshop # 5, scheduled on Thursday, 16 March, 2023, 9:00 am- 12 pm, Room 407, Nguyễn Văn Tráng Campus.   

This special workshop is a chance for participants to welcome, listen to and interact with the two distinguished guest speakers from Australia, Dr Trì Hoàng Đăng and Dr Susan Germein.  

Dr Trì Hoàng Đăng will lead the first section (9:00 am- 11:00 am) with a DEEP analysis of the two important but challenging parts in research paper writing: The INTRODUCTION and DISCUSSION. The discussion here centres around concerns as well as common ‘traps�?novice researchers and postgraduate students often fall prey to while writing these sections. The ‘practical�?part of the section lies in the use of REAL articles and thesis papers to illustrate and support the analysis.  

Dr Susan Germein will attend the workshop via Google Meet with a reflection on her ‘journey of an unconventional thesis�?in the context of DIFFERENT CULTURE. For those of us who are new to, or curious about ETHNOGRAPHY, this is the chance to get to know what it is like taking a POST-QUALITATIVE approach to the research process, the ethical issues and other important decisions an ethnography researcher, including Dr Susan Germein may have to make along the ‘journey�? 

Speakers�?Bios:

Trì Hoàng Đăng obtained a PhD degree in Linguistics at the University of Newcastle and an MA degree in Applied Linguistics from Curtin University of Technology, Australia. His research interests are English-medium instruction (EMI), and foreign language education policy, and World Englishes. Dr Trì Hoàng Đăng has an extensive background in teaching, and his experience in research is evident in the number of publications. 

Susan Germein has a PhD in Education from Western Sydney University. She is the Sustainability Education Advisor in the Office of the PVC-Educational Quality and Partnerships at WSU, as well as an Adjunct Research Fellow. Susan’s doctoral research was situated in a girls�?school in the Himalayan mountains of Uttarakhand. Sharing the experience of a socioecological education from the global south, the thesis invites educators to think differently about education and educational research. Susan has an extensive background in teaching and developing curriculum/pedagogy in Education for Sustainability at community, vocational education and higher education levels. She was part of a national team gaining a Green Gown Excellence in Teaching Award for a Vocational Graduate Certificate in Education and Training for Sustainability.
