On Thursday, May 18th, 2023, the Faculty of International Languages ​​and Cultures organized the episode 8 of the Professional Development Workshop Series.

The speakers of this seminar are Dr. Le Dao Thanh Binh An and Dr. Nguyen Phuong Lien. Although they are familiar faces of the workshop series, they always impart useful new knowledge to the audiences in an interesting way.

At the espisode 8, the audiences were introduced to the theories and their key concepts developed by Pierre Bourdieu and Basil Bernstein as well as their applications in research. Besides, people also had a chance to practice using STATA software to process data in quantitative research. The heated discussions on the topic among the audiences and the speakers made the atmosphere more exciting.

We hope that the knowledge and activities in this workshop will help the teachers and students to have more useful academic experiences, which can be applied in future research and to keeping passion for this field.

The professional devevlopment workshop, organized by the Faculty of International Languages ​​and Cultures, aims at improving the scientific research skills and creating a forum for academic exchange among lecturers. The #8 workshop are held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

At Workshop # 8, Dr Lê Đào Thanh Bình An will be back to introduce the basics of the two theories and their key concepts developed by Pierre Bourdieu and Basil Bernstein, two of the most influential sociologists of the twentieth century. The introduction will include some examples and suggestions on how these can apply in educational research. Hopefully, the session will be a valuable experience for all participants. 

Dr Nguyễn Phương Liên, Faculty of Logistics- International Trade, HSU will continue the session with the instruction on how to undertake the basics of quantitative data management and analysis, using STATA.

Workshop # 8 also closes the research training sessions to kick off the practice series, starting with Workshop # 9 where participants will share research ideas or topics and form research teams to start working towards these topics.

About the speaker:

Duong Ngoc Dung graduated with a Master’s degree from the Department of East Asian Studies at Harvard University (USA) in 1995, a PhD in Religious Studies from Boston University (USA) in 2001, an MBA from the United Business Institute (Belgium). ) 2007.

In addition, he has held senior management positions, training and consulting for large organizations such as Samsung, LG Vina, Consulate General of the US, Australia, New Zealand, Ministry of Planning & Investment, Ministry of Finance. , Vietnam Television, Consulate General of Singapore�?/p>

Currently, he is teaching at the University of Social Sciences & Humanities and teaches Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, and Cross-Cultural Management at the Paris Graduate School of Management. He also teaches at the MBA programs of the University of Bolton (UK) and Northwestern University (Switzerland) in Vietnam.
