Hoa Sen Research Seminar’s anniversary of 100th week to review results

The anniversary celebration of the 100th week of the Hoa Sen Research Seminar, which reviews 99 training and colloquium sessions on scientific research, was held on November 5 at Hoa Sen University’s branch at Nguyen Van Trang St in District 1 in HCM City.

It discussed an action plan and upcoming workshops.

The first workshop of the Hoa Sen Research Seminar was organised on June 3, 2013. It officially kicked off on August 29, 2013.

The primary objective of the Hoa Sen Research Seminar is to develop the research capability of, and create a research environment for, Hoa Sen University lecturers in Economics, Management, and Education and Development, leading eventually to published articles in internationally peer-reviewed journals.

By providing a platform for all interested researchers to present and discuss ongoing research as well as new research opportunities, Hoa Sen Research Seminar also aims to create opportunities to develop joint research projects – both academic and applied – within Hoa Sen University and between it and other research institutions.

Dr Do Ba Khang, head of Economics and Commerce Faculty, and a member of the Hoa Sen Research Seminar steering committee

At the anniversary, Dr Do Ba Khang, head of Economics and Commerce Faculty, and a member of the Hoa Sen Research Seminar steering committee, said that the number of workshops, which the university has organised since 2013, has increased year by year, particularly 19 sessions in 2013, increasing to 44 in the last year and to 55 this year.

The number of attendees was 318, including 37 per cent from the university. The remaining came from other organisations and universities, he said.

Of the frequent attendees, 85 per cent of them were from Hoa Sen University, he added.

There were 204 presentations held at the Hoa Sen Research Seminar, including nearly 80 per cent focusing on research methodology.

The presentations related to topics in the field of tourism management represented only 10 per cent, the lowest compared to others such as economics and finance.

However, there were shortcomings, according to Hoa Sen Research Seminar’s organiser. There was volatility in the composition of attendance, disappearance of some core members, poor reach for training sessions, and a shortage of participation of lecturers from other faculties at the universities.

Moreover, new attendees at the Hoa Sen Research Seminar missed many core topics. Information and presentations were also not updated sufficiently on the Hoa Sen Research Seminar website.

In the future, regarding organisational structure, the Hoa Sen Research Seminar should add five more members on the steering committee, including Do Hue Huong, Le Quang Khai, Nguyen Thi Loan, Nguyen Phan Bach Su and Doan Minh Chau.

Moreover, the Hoa Sen Research Seminar will add more themes on education, focusing further on sharing and discussing ongoing research as well as having new themes for former students such as existing research trends and opportunities.

New and existing members on the steering committee take photos to remember the event.

Lecturers and members of the Hoa Sen Research Seminar snap photos at the event.
