Vi\u1ec7n IDAE t\u1ed5 ch\u1ee9c Hoa Sen Symposium 1 v\u1edbi ch\u1ee7 \u0111\u1ec1:<\/p>\n<p>Presentation: Floods and Household welfare: evidence from Southeast Asia<br \/><span style=\"color:#000080\"><em>9:30am &#8211; 10:00am<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Presenter:\u00a0Dr. LE THI NGOC TU (Institute of Development &amp; Applied Economics, Hoa Sen University)<\/p>\n<p>Abstract:\u00a0This research uses a rich panel data set of household surveys and\u00a0external long-term\u00a0flood data, extracted from satellite images, to\u00a0complete a puzzling picture of the effects of floods on household welfare. Floodsimpose a mixed impact on households. On the one hand, the floodsreduce household incomes dependent on natural sources; while on the other hand, floods push farmers out of the fields to seek extra incomes from non-agricultural activities. In addition, the floods significantly increase some types of expenditure.\u00a0The finding of a lower household subjective wellbeing score reaffirms all these results. Further, this research shows the efforts that rural households are making to cope with the effects of flooding.
