On Thursday, 10 November 2016, you are cordially invited to the HSRS #143 at Room 501, 8 Nguyen Van Trang campus of Hoa Sen University.

In the first session starting at 9am, Dr. Do Ba Khang from FEC/HSU will present a new research initiative, tentatively entitled “Internationalization of higher education and impacts in Vietnam”. The objective of this presentation is to raise interest of the participants and then serves as an open invitation to join the project team. There will be open discussion to discuss the research design, and to explore related research topics for those interested in researching the interface of the fields of higher education and economics. The presenter will also use this opportunity to illustrate with real experience his personal views on some of the methodological issues raised in the discussion at HSRS last week:

How could we (beginning researchers) get, and preliminarily assess, initial ideas to kick off our research? How could we move from these ideas to research design?

So, it is expected that researchers in other fields may join in the discussion.

From 10:30 to 12:00, Dr. Klimis Vogiatzoglou and Ms. Phuong Nhung Thi Nguyen from FEC/HSU will present their recent research “Trade, FDI, and Development: Long-run Dynamics and Linkages in Three Emerging ASEAN Economies”.

The paper analyzes the long-run patterns and dynamics in international trade liberalization, inward foreign direct investment, and economic development in three emerging ASEAN economies: Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. Furthermore, the long-run linkages and equilibrium relationship between trade, foreign investment, and economic development is examined empirically through appropriate time-series analysis modeling within an Engle-Granger cointegration framework and error-correction model. The results indicate the existence of significant long-run linkages, especially in the cases of Vietnam and Cambodia. Evidence is found that opening up to international trade and foreign investment does substantially contribute to economic development in the long-run.

As usual, the seminar will start at 9:00am, Thursday, 10 November 2016 at Room 501, Hoa Sen University, 8 Nguyen Van Trang, District 1, HCMC. For those who will join HSRS for the first time, please be informed that the weekly open seminars welcome all research oriented participants in broad areas of Economics, Management, Education and Development, who can come to learn and share without pre-registration. Once at the seminar, please sign your name and contact address so that we can update you with future program schedules.
