In the academic year 2022 – 2023, Hoa Sen University (HSU) offers 22 scholarships to new students. As one of the few new students to receive a full talent scholarship, Nguyen Ngoc Viet Thi – Marketing major had emotional shares at the Opening Ceremony.

Dear lady & gent, Dear our lecturers, and especially all of HSU students.
I’m Nguyen Ngoc Viet Thi, freshmen from Economics and Management Department.

Are you exciting???????? Are you exciting???? I can’t hear. Ok one more time, Are you exciting???? Yes, thank you. You know, even though I’m on the stages for many years, this time is the most exciting one and I’m really nervous now for 18 years. It’s my honor to be here on the behalf of all the newcomer students K22 of HSU to have a speech at this beautiful Opening ceremony of the New school year.

Dear our lecturers and professors, Dear all my new schoolmates.

So, the new school year has just begun. Just a few days ago when we are still high schools�?students, and we are so worried about the Entrance Exam. Some of us even must stay up late to try hard to get the scores that we want and to get into Hoa Sen University, the school that our hearts desire to be part of it.

Now, we are proud to be in this hall and officially became Hoa Sen University Student. Our dream has become true.

After 2 weeks at HSU, we may feel a little bit unfamiliar with university environment, but from what I’ve learnt and experienced, I believed this the best decision that I’ve ever made in my life. Hoa Sen University was my dream and now that dream is not just a dream, but it becomes true. HSU will be with me to pave the way for many other goals.

Both Viet Thi and her sister – Que Tran are also students of Hoa Sen University.

Along with our beloved lecturers, the modern facilities, the spirit of freedom, self-employed, and the respect the differences from HSU, newcomer students have more drive to believe to study and practice. There are so many alumnus, who get a lot of success with dignity and skillfulness, and they contribute a lot for society, for country. Becoming a part of these and leaving our trademark are always our ultimate goals for me and many other students.

K22 students, we promise that we will not stop to learn and achieve our target so that HSU students are always remembered as the best aspect of HSU. Along with many alumni, we will try our best to maintain the HSUers traditional: Dynamic, Creative, Self-control and Integration.

Dear my colleagues, I have been told that “school is the place that you can make mistake with the least percentage of risk�? I believe that 4 years of university education are not just deadline, classroom time, academic knowledge. 4 years at HSU are also an opportunity that we can make wrong and right decision, that we can grow up, can be shinning, and can be ourselves. That is also the slogan of this ceremony �?strong>“BE YOURSELF- BUT BE YOUR BEST SELF�?

Finally, I would like to express my sincere to all the parents, families, teachers because their unconditional support for us to be here today and to become a HSUers. I wish all the best to our guests and participant. I hope we, HSUers will always have the strong belief, determination to continue our great journey.

At the Opening Ceremony of the academic year 2022 – 2023 of Hoa Sen University (HSU), Mr. Haike Manning – Former New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam sent the message: Always be yourself, with the best version. This is also the theme of the ceremony �?Be yourself, But be your best self.

Hello Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of HCMC People Committee, Mr Hoang Quoc Viet – Chairman of Nguyen Hoang Group, President VO THI NGOC THUY, Hoa Sen Faculty members, Distinguished Guests, Students & Parents.

Xin Chao! It’s my great honour to join you today for the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year at Hoa Sen.

A little bit about myself:

Originally from New Zealand – I have been living in Vietnam for 10 years now
I don’t speak Vietnamese, but I have recorded a Vietnamese song by Trinh Cong Son!
My wife is a leading voice on women leadership in Vietnam
My son is a fluent Vietnamese speaker
I trained as a lawyer. My first career was as a Diplomat. Now I am managing director of an international consulting business.

How many of you know what a Diplomat does?

A Diplomat represents their country internationally. Supporting businesses, trade, building relationships with government and people in the country where they are working, promoting cultural understanding, supporting peace and security. I did this for 20 years, in many parts of the world from India to China to Brazil and finally in Vietnam. It was an amazing and privileged career. In my job, I met Presidents, Prime Ministers, spiritual leaders, famous movie stars, billionaires, and top businesspeople.

How did I get there?

Well, first off, it wasn’t always my dream to be a Diplomat. When I started university, like you are now, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do once I graduated. At first, I thought I would study accounting. Then I studied Japanese. Then I gave that up and studied law instead. It was only after about 4 years at university that I started to think “hey, being a Diplomat could be interesting!�? So, my first reflection to you today is this: it’s ok if you haven’t yet decided what comes next after university �?what your first job might be. Don’t rush into a decision �?you have time!

The second reflection I wish to share with you is this:

As you get older, it is easy to get swept along by everything going on around you. The pace of life seems to be speeding up year by year. As you gain power and influence, it is easy to be distracted by things like status and money. This is why it is so important to be yourself, and to be your best self.

What does this mean to me? To me, this means three things:

Be humble. Always treat people with respect. Treat people the way you yourself would like to be treated.
Be open and be curious. Always keep learning. Never assume you know everything �?you don’t!
Act with purpose. Think about how what you do contributes to the community you live in. We all go through this life together.

The third and final reflection I want to offer is to appreciate the good things in life: your friends, family, a good conversation, nature. The author James Clear �?who is an excellent modern thinker – puts it this way: “For those who expect everything, there are many curses. For those who appreciate everything, there are many blessings�?/em>.

Dear Students, it is such an exciting time to be a young Vietnamese �?and to be a new university student. Trust me: These days there is a lot of international attention and excitement about Vietnam so you will have many opportunities in the coming years �?not just here in Vietnam but also around the world. In the meantime: Study hard, have fun, and always remember to be your best self.

On 26th October, 2022, The Opening Ceremony of the academic year 2022-2023 of Hoa Sen University (HSU) took place at Military Zone 7 Gymnasium (Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City) with the theme “Be yourself – But be your best self.�?At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Thi Ngoc Thuy – President of HSU shared with new students and parents, who have chosen HSU as the place to send their children.

Dear respected parents, and my dear fellow students,

A philosophy of education should guide every educational endeavor. Embracing a spirit of liberal education, Hoa Sen University has built an international education environment.

The student is considered a unique individual who is not only required to learn, but also to live in an environment which promotes the development of all aspects of their lives, including physical, mental, intellectual, emotional, as well as social skills and global integration.

With the school’s pedagogical team and aspirations for the future as well as my big dream, Hoa Sen University strives to provide students an environment that is world-class, dynamic, and friendly, encourages independent thinking, and develops entrepreneurship. Being unafraid to own and take control of the projects that provide value for their families and society as a whole while they are still in the learning process.

To create a wonderful learning environment, I believe there are four essential elements.

1. In the first place, the lecturer has the critical role of sharing knowledge, inspiring, and accompanying students in their pursuit of acquiring knowledge of global humanity. At Hoa Sen University, we recruit lecturers with such spirit, who are not only experts but also have experiences in foreign learning environments and markets. Simultaneously, with 50% of the training program being taught in English, the students will confidently communicate globally.

All functional departments, even those not directly involved in teaching, worked together to create a civilized educational environment to accompany students’ learning experiences. Our Hoa Sen University is a highly regarded applied university with more than 80% of its programs accredited internationally, and 98% of our undergraduate students and recent graduates are employed by large corporations. From now on, think about that day, not far away for yourself!

2- The second factor is that the school, parents, and students are all in agreement that the university environment should be a place where students can gain practical experience. People used to believe that going to university was a place where you could prepare for life. I believe that university should be LIFE: a place where you can learn and apply things from real life, even if it means facing the problems of a miniature society in school, in order to perfect yourself. Students will not only get education but also self-discovery and identity themselves. How will their valuable future path benefit their family and community? And creating a sense of responsibility for their choices, as well as being kind and loving.

If university education and four years of youth are only used as a practice model for real life, they are a waste of time.

3-The third factor is the supreme responsibility of the school board. And I – the president of this university, along with the faculty, staff, and School Board of Directors, will always be by your side as you go along this crucial journey.

4-Despite everything mentioned above, the success of your four years of school will mostly depend on you. In order to graduate on time and seize career opportunities, it would be ideal if you have the right mindset and responsibility for mastering your studies and experiences. Moreover, keep in mind that there are many ways to support you to have more wonderful students experience such as participating in school’s seminars, important school events, sports, and other activities that are are exclusively only for all of the students of Hoa Sen University

Dear parents,

A wise investment in children’s education is an investment of love and, more importantly, a social responsibility. Thank you for believing in us and accompanying us on this journey. We guarantee that when your children graduate from Hoa Sen University, they will be the best version of themselves. There have been many alumnus of the University become inspirational role models, such as female athlete Nguyen Bich Thuy of the national football team – English Languages Studies student, Miss Grand International 2021 Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien – student of Hospitality Management of Vatel International Program, Vu Do Tuan Huy – General Director of Information Technology of Mai Linh Group – Chairman of Hoa Sen University Alumni Association. And in the auditorium today, in the first row, is Our President, Mr. Hoang Quoc Viet. He came here to attend not only as the president of the Nguyen Hoang Group, with a burning desire to develop Hoa Sen University but also with the love of an alumnus who has always kept Hoa Sen University in his heart.

Finally, with great pleasure, I would like to extend my best wishes to all delegates. I would like to specifically wish our students the best preparation for their learning journey and a wonderful experience at Hoa Sen University; continuing the wonderful tradition of our University, becoming a valuable member of society while still in school, aspiring to be a global citizen, a cloud citizen, and confident in being the best version of yourself when stepping into the world.
