On February 24, 2024, Hoa Sen University held its 41st graduation ceremony at Hoa Binh Theater (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City). The program was attended by representatives of the Indian Consulate, French Consulate, Moroccan Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, business partners, School Board of Directors, lecturers, 1,553 new graduates and more than 2,000 relatives and friends.

Nearly 50% of students graduated with very good and excellent degree classification

Among the 1,553 graduates this time, HSU has 1 school valedictorian, 20 major valedictorians and 21 major salutatorians. In which, 713 students ranked very good and excellent, accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of graduates.

Specially, Tran Phan Bao My graduated as Valedictorian of the school with a GPA of 3.91/4.0. Speaking at the ceremony, My shared: “Our Gen Z is living ‘full-time’ because we face a lot of pressure: Family expectations, peer pressure, fear of failure, fear of not meeting expectations. As a Hoa Sen student, fully equipped with knowledge and social skills, diversity embrace, experiential learing, I always try my best and there are 3 things that have helped me overcome that: Courage to face and not be afraid of failure; Take advantage of youth and don’t be too concerned about prejudices; Expand “networking”. Today’s version of myself is the summation of the whole process of 4 years studying at HSU. It’s time to close and move on to a new chapter – a chapter about the vast world out there.”

In addition to the valedictorian, this HSU graduation also has two outstanding students graduating with dual degrees. Among them, student Tran Thi Bich Lien graduated with double exellent certificates: English Language (GPA: 3.78/4.0) and Psychology (GPA: 3.8/4.0).

Vo Thi Trang Tho students graduated early with dual degrees within 4 years (5-year training program) including: Psychology with excellent grades (GPA 3:60/4:0) and Human Resource Management with excellent grades (GPA: 3:59/4:0). Tho is also valedictorian of Psychology major.

Sharing about receiving the dual degree, Trang Tho said: “When I received this news, I was very surprised and happy because I did not pay too much attention to grades, I always tried to learn to gain as much knowledge as possible. Because I want to complete my dual degree program within 4 years, on average I have to study about 8-9 subjects per semester and do not take breaks in extra semesters. That is also the reason that I do not have as much time to participate in many activities in Hoa Sen as other students.”

A departure to the world

With the orientation of being a world class university for Vietnamese students, Hoa Sen University is constantly innovating its study programs, creating conditions for students to study and exchange, practice and work at domestic and foreign multinational companies. The 41st graduation ceremony witnessed many students working and studying in countries in Germany, USA, Australia … This is also a confirmation that HSU’s training quality has met the needs of the global labor market.

Therefore, this graduation ceremony is themed “The 41st Departures” with the idea of “HSU International Airport”. HSU will be an international knowledge airport, fully equipped for students to be ready to depart for flights to the world. The entire performance and inspirational speeches of the 21 valedictorians were also carried out according to this idea. Each student is a captain for the flight to realize their life’s dream. They will represent more than 1,500 new graduates to send meaningful messages before ending their 4-year journey at HSU and departing for the new “flight” of their lives.

Among the students studying and working abroad, Duong Quang Duy, a graduate of Hotel Management, flew from the US to Vietnam to attend the Graduation Ceremony. Quang Duy currently works at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in the US. The international learning environment and bilingual training program at HSU have helped Duy easily integrate into work. “HSU introduces foreign languages into daily subjects to help students exchange and communicate in English regularly, intangible to create communication reflexes. From there, it opens up many opportunities at work. For example, from my second year, I was the Head of the Malaysian Embassy’s interpretation team at the FMCG Trade Promotion Conference. In 2020, I had the opportunity to go to the US to work as a receptionist. After 2 years, I came back and took on the position of receptionist supervisor.”

Accordingly, 4 students: Hoang Thanh Phuc, Le Ngoc Phuong Thao, Nguyen Hoai Khanh Han, Ho Lam Thuc Nghi studied under the student exchange program between Hoa Sen University and partner universities College de Paris (Paris) and Rennes Business School (Rennes). They studied Business Administration subjects at these two prestigious schools.

Not only the trip for studying, experiencing living culture and art in Paris but also leaves them with memorable impressions: Participating in a book signing by designer Jacquemus, LV Dream exhibition by Louis Vuitton, the largest Christmas market in the world in Strasbourg…trips to cultural and art museums, famous architectural works in Paris (Eiffel Tower, L’Arc de triomphe)

Each year, College de Paris gives Hoa Sen University 4 slots for the student exchange program, to help students of the two schools have the opportunity to gain knowledge, experience the working environment as well as cultural exchange at foreign country.

From 2022, College de Paris signed a pedagogical cooperation agreement with Hoa Sen University for many majors, including the Fashion Business program. According to this agreement, from year 3, Fashion Design students can choose to follow 2 majors: Fashion Business or Fashion Design. Students majoring in Fashion Business upon graduation will receive a Bachelor of Fashion Design from Hoa Sen University as well as a certificate of completion of the Fashion Business program from College de Paris.

Accordingly, Hoa Sen University Science Magazine will specialize in publishing articles and research results in 4 fields: Basic science and technology, economic science and law, social sciences and humanities, design and art.

The goal of Hoa Sen University Scientific Magazine is to become a forum for exchanging and providing scientific information; bridge the gap between science and practice, exchange experiences and knowledge between lecturers, postgraduates and students, helping young researchers improve their scientific research and publication skills. From there, it serves the teaching, training and scientific research of the University.

The editorial board of Hoa Sen University Science Magazine was officially launched, including 23 researchers. Among them, there are 6 Professors, 6 Associate Professors and 11 Doctors, who are experts and researchers from 4 focus areas of the Journal.

On the evening of January 6, Hoa Sen Student Festival – The 1st HSU Students Fest with the theme “Beyond boundaries within hearts” of Hoa Sen University took place at Thanh Nien Cultural House (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City). The program had the participation of the school’s Board of Directors, business partners, lecturers and thousands of pupils and students.

For the first time, a music festival was dedicated to Hoa Sen University students with an extremely majestic stage that overwhelmed guests and thousands of attendees. The guest cast of Rapper Double 2T, singer Myra Tran, American singer, HSU student singers Mon Hoang Anh, Viet Thi, KenJi and Sen House talents brought eye-catching performances. In addition, 10 typical collections of HSU Fashion Design students were also presented at the music night.

HSU hopes that the great music party at the beginning of 2024 will help HSUers “let their hearts out” and get ready for the new year 2024 with even more breakthroughs.

The project was originally part of the graduation project of two students Nguyen Pham Truong An and Nguyen Thai Hoc, under the guidance of MSc. Tran Thi Nhat Tram – Lecturer of HSU Graphic Design. Realizing the good applicability and high feasibility of the project, as well as the desire to create value for the city’s top key projects, the research team actively presented the idea to the management board of MAUR and urban railway company No. 1 HURC.

Talking about the project, Nguyen Thai Hoc said: “The inspiration is definitely Saigon. When I think of HCMC Metro, the first thing that comes to mind is that I want to bring the culture of Saigon into HCMC Metro, it will be closer to the people.”

After many surveys, research, implementation and discussions to get the most suitable version, from January 2021, the logo and brand identity system of the Hoa Sen University’s research team have been selected to replace use throughout the Metro system.

On March 2, 2021, the leaders of the Urban Railway Management Board and HURC1 Company attended and listened to the report on the project results of Hoa Sen University students on the logo brand identity (Logo) of HCMC Metro. In total, HSU’s design team had about 4 meetings, worked, and edited to complete the project.

Nguyen Pham Truong An said he was extremely excited to have the opportunity to design for a project of great magnitude and meaning to the people of the city: “We met and edited many times before being selected. When we were rejected over and over again, I felt very helpless. However, when it was put into use, I was very proud. Sometimes I think this will be the biggest project of my life. However, I still want to do more valuable things in the future.”

To actual projects and recognition from the grand prize

Marking this memorable milestone of HSU Graphic Design students, on March 12, 2021, The Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) and Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railways No. 1 Company Limited (HURC1) sent a delegation to visit and work with the School Board and the Faculty of Design & Arts of Hoa Sen University. Based on the assessment of capacity, potential, demand for cooperation, representatives of 03 parties agreed and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the content related to receiving interns, creating opportunities for job experience and professional development for young workers.

Within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation, Ms. Vu Minh Huyen, Deputy Head of The Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) and Ms. Van Thi Huu Tam, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railways No. 1 Company Limited (HURC1) officially received the Graphic Design Graduation Project “Brand identity product set and communication plan for HCMC �?METRO”.

Specifically, according to the agreement of the two units, all brand identity items were completely newly designed, except for the HCMC METRO logo, which was redesigned based on the idea of the existing logo, aiming to preserve the identity of the logo that has been associated with HCMC METRO throughout the past construction process.

The research team said that the changes in the logo were created to increase streamlining, versatility, and most importantly, help the logo better match the HCMC METRO brand attributes: safe, modern, punctual, the pride of all people in Ho Chi Minh City and the people of the country.

In April 2023, the author group of Metro – Me Pho visited and experienced the City Theater Metro Station after the Signing Ceremony to hand over the HCMC Metro brand identity system. After 2 years back, the City Theater Station is now more spacious and completed in the final stages.

On December 17, 2023, the HCMC Metro brand identity system project named Me tro – Me Pho won the “Promising image design” award at the Vietnam Creative Advertising Awards 2023 held at Nguyen Hue Walking Street. The national award is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Vietnam Advertising Association, to honor and recognize the contributions of advertisers.

This is also a success that demonstrates the orientation of Hoa Sen University in general and the Faculty of Design & Arts in particular in connecting businesses and bringing practical social topics into subject projects.

With the desire to help students have more joy and interesting experiences when entering the new year, HSU organizes Tet gifts for students. This is the second year the school has organized a Tet gift giving activity for students to personalize the care of students, helping them not only learn but also feel the affection, devotion and thoughtfulness from the School.

Especially, this year’s Tet gift chosen by HSU is the LockNLock thermos, with a compact, convenient, eye-catching design, and is a limited edition only for Nha Sen students. In addition, along with the Tet gifts are cards handwritten by HSU teachers and sent to the students. This is also the thoughts and feelings that teachers send to them in the new year.

With the main message “Beyond boundaries within hearts”, the 2024 Tet gift will be a “friend” to accompany students on the journey to conquer upcoming challenges, sending to HSUers who always keep enthusiasm, passion, preserving the core values of HSU, which are Diversity embrace, World class education, Experiential learing, Entrepreneurial mindset, Lively student experiences, contribute to helping students overcome all their limitations.

As one of the first students to receive Tet gifts this year, Tran Chi Nguyen – Digital Art student shared: “I think this is an annual activity that helps connect the school and students. This shows that the school cares very much about students. Especially when teachers are busy, but still write handwritten cards to send to students. This is something that I feel very happy to study at Hoa Sen.”

Celebrating the New Year for the first time in a distant country

After 4 months of studying in France, HSU student has countless memorable memories. This was also the first time Tu celebrates New Year and the upcoming Lunar New Year in a distant country.

“This is the first year celebrating New Year in the city of Lyon, France, the emotions on New Year’s Eve are difficult to put into words. I realize the big difference between French culture and Vietnamese culture. France’s major supermarket chains all close before 12 noon. Everyone went home to enjoy New Year’s Eve with their families. There is no countdown, no fireworks and no bustling atmosphere like in Vietnam. I’m really homesick and want to have a meal with my family.”

Sharing about his experiences studying and exchanging, Tu said, the class had many representatives from countries such as China, Taiwan, India, Korea, Italy, Germany, France, Spain,… The lecturers at the school were also extremely enthusiastic when guiding and teaching students. The fact that the multinational class had helped Tu learn more about the cultures and languages of other countries.

“Our learning environment was very good, the teachers always supported us a lot and were willing to come down to explain to us so we can better understand the lesson. Each subject we had a different group to work with, but the teachers wanted us to create groups with many different countries, so everyone were very excited because they were about to exchange studies with many ways of learning and learn more about the cultures of other countries,” Tu shared.

Becoming more mature thanks to the study exchange in France

However, studying in a distant country is not easy. To study and work well, Tu had to get used to the living environment, culture and people here. Language and cultural differences also caused many barriers, especially when he was alone in France. Tu also had to arrange his study and work schedule to earn some more income and enjoyable experiences.

Talking about the challenges during his 4 months in France, Tu shared: “There were days when we had class from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with only a 1-hour lunch break. I was quite surprised because in France people hardly use English to communicate with us. It’s really hard to find someone who can speak English in France but French people are very nice. At train stations, when I didn’t know some information and asked someone a question, they were always ready to answer and even take me where I needed to go. Instead of finding someone who could speak English, I chose to learn French. There’s nothing easier than learning a language by living in that country.”

Also from the challenges of studying and living in another country, Truong Anh Tu has grown more mature day by day. 4 months have passed, Tu has learned a lot of new things about the culture, how to work and has made many new friends in France. He earned his own money by selling ice cream at fairs and working as a driver to pick up friends to the airport. Not only studying, Tu also actively participates in school activities and the Vietnamese Student Association in France such as: Supporting Vietnamese students who have just come to France, participating in artistic activities at the French learning center.

“Everything I experienced in France gave me knowledge and experience. I believe that the experiences I have will help me a lot in my future work. Currently, I have learned the mindset when dealing with the assignments of many friends in many different countries. Those are precious things that I will never forget!”

The exchange semester is probably one of the unforgettable memories for students, allowing them to study and experience themselves in an international environment in another country, explore the culture, people, and progressive working environment outside.That is the “privilege” that HSU students receive when participating in the International Student Exchange Program and once again affirms the “International Standard” learning environment at HSU. The school always creates conditions for students to have rich experiences, beyond their limits.

The School’s Master’s program has so far built trust with the community as more and more students come from large, multinational businesses, as well as many students holding management and leadership positions or business owner.

The 2023 Graduation & Opening Ceremony of the Master’s program honors the self-exploration efforts of new Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and English Language (MAE); At the same time, it also motivates students who are preparing to embark on a new and ambitious knowledge journey. The ceremony was honored to welcome distinguished guests who were leaders of partner businesses, Board of Directors, leaders of faculties, institutes and centers of Hoa Sen University, and the Board of Lecturers of Entrepreneurship of the Master’s program, and the participation of their families and relatives contributed to warmth and spread pride to the new Masters and new students.

One of the typical faces of new Masters is Mr. Le Huu Hoa Loc, Valedictorian of the English Language major and currently the Legal – Administrative & Human Resources Director of Thien An Education Services & Development Company Limited . The interesting thing is that Master Hoa Loc was also the valedictorian of the Bachelor of International Commercial Law! It was the passion for teaching languages that motivated Master Hoa Loc to be determined to conquer the English Language major at the Master’s level and successfully maintain the title of Valedictorian once again despite starting from the wrong field. The skills and experience accumulated from the Master’s program in English Language along with in-depth legal knowledge and understanding have supported Anh Loc in building and operating his family’s Foreign Language Center.

On behalf of the new Masters, Valedictorian Master Hoa Loc expressed their gratitude to the Board of Directors and teachers, especially the family for always accompanying, supporting and being a great source of motivation for the new Masters to complete their learning journey.

He shared with great emotion: “Two months before graduating with a Bachelor of International Commercial Law, I received a job offer at an English Center in Thu Duc as a legal consultant. During my time working here, the inspiration from the teachers and the learning atmosphere of English classes gradually nurtured in me a passion for English. I realized the limitations of my English skills and started improving through self-study and courses to improve my abilities. 2 years later, I left that center as Deputy Director to begin pursuing my passion for teaching English. I am lucky to have the companionship of my wife – a Bachelor of English Language – to further strengthen my passion. Thanks to that, our Thien An English Center was born, and is now 7 years old.”

With an application and practical orientation, Master’s programs at Hoa Sen University not only help students systematize specialized knowledge but also have many opportunities to exchange experiences, practical rubbing from prestigious experts, big business leaders thematic sessions in the modules, seminars, talk shows. Hoa Sen University’s Master training programs are increasingly trusted as more and more students register and many business partners choose to be their human resource training facility. In the atmosphere of pride and joy spread from the new Masters, the new learners were also inspired to study towards the goal of conquering new knowledge milestones, becoming better versions of themselves.

HSU Business Challenge is a professional competition in the field of business and management organized by students of the HSU Faculty of Economics and Business, and is also a subject project of the Business Administration major. On the afternoon of November 29, the competition officially launched season 2 with 114 contestants divided into 15 groups of contestants.

Launched on the market on Kick-off day

At the competition, groups of contestants need to research the market, develop a plan and implement a real-life business project for any product or service. At the kick-off ceremony, products were held in the form of booths to “launch the market” and “reach potential customers”. The goal of the warm-up round is for contestants to demonstrate product promotion strategies, stimulate buying behavior.

This is also a stepping stone to start business projects of 15 groups (including 7 self-produced groups and 8 commercial business groups). The strength of this year’s competition is enhancing control over product output. Products launched on the market must have clearly proven documents of origin and documents from the Department of Health or food safety.

Some products “launched” by contestant groups include: Perfume, fabric bags, water bottles, fast food, candies, etc. In particular, grasping the market trend, the extremely “trendy” cheese coin cake with young people was put into business by the contestants.

Methodical business strategies

As a contest advisor, Dr. Phan Vo Minh Thang – Dean, HSU Faculty of Economics – Business shared: “The contest is a place for students to absorb and put into practice the knowledge they have learned in class. Students mobilize their own capital, plan, business strategy and sell their own products. When they graduate, they will be confident to be students studying Business Administration of Hoa Sen University, confident with their business projects or start-ups.”

This year, the HSU Business Challenge competition includes 3 rounds, lasting from the end of September to the end of December 2023.

Round 1 – Business idea: In round 1, groups of contestants implement business ideas, build a specific plan to determine market demand, find out the strengths and opportunities of the product, determine expected revenue and costs.

Round 2 – Business results: Projects will mobilize capital and present business results on: Market, production/trade, marketing, human resources, accounting/finance, risk .

Round 3 �?Final: In the Final Round, with the support of the Evaluation Board who are administrators, Representatives of businesses in the fields of business �?management �?marketing �?production �?operation, 5 lucky groups of contestants will present details from the idea �?planning �?results �?business orientation of the project.

This is also an important contest for students to interact with experts, directly “pitching” as if working with business partners. From there, helping students have valuable experiences not only in strategic planning but also in directly working, selling with partners, and convincing investors while they are still students. The total prize is up to more than 50,000,000 VND including cash and extremely attractive gifts.

With the criteria of Real Learning Real Doing and Entrepreneurial Spirit in training, Hoa Sen University always creates conditions for students to implement their own projects, master themselves and take control of their projects and competitions. From there, helping students really do what they have learned, ready to enter into the recruitment market even before graduation.

The heartfelt sharing from director Tran Huu Tan, producer Hoang Quan and author Thao Trang helped students “dig deeper” into the nooks and crannies when producing a film. Especially with Hellbound Village – historical thriller filmed in Sao Ha Village �?Ha Giang with cold weather below 5 degrees Celsius.

How to make the film stick to the original story, folk and spiritual elements on the film naturally and true to Vietnamese culture is not easy. The film must also focus on horror elements, creepy naturally, without coercion. To achieve that, the film crew must build from the context, costumes, character designs… meticulously, the knots, and character developments to ensure logic and horror in both the visual and auditory parts.

Especially, with the special shooting context, the film crew of more than 200 people had to move, almost “live” in the village for many months in cold weather conditions, no electricity, no water, lack of food, sleeping place … ways to ensure safety and daily life for actors, protect production equipment, and the crew have gone through many challenges.

The exchange is a rare opportunity for students to learn from the experiences of filmmakers. Not only learning, it is also an inspiration for students to persevere in pursuing their passion.

As a companion of many activities of students majoring in Media Technology Management and Film at HSU, producer Hoang Quan said: “I am very impressed with Hoa Sen students, who are very active, creative and willing to learn. I think the school organizing talks like this is a way to bridge the gap between the lecture hall and reality, helping students approach filmmaking in a more realistic way.”

Director Tran Huu Tan shared: “Personally, I always appreciate it when the school invites me and the film crew to interact with students. This is a way to help students approach the profession more quickly and authentically.”

Meanwhile, talking about exploiting folk elements, writer Thao Trang shared: “Everything I can write, from the details, character construction, folk elements, horror…. It’s all about learning from teachers and schools, especially universities. Vietnamese cultural foundations, field subjects motivated me to learn about Vietnamese culture and to be honest, our country’s folk culture is not inferior to any other country. Students are now given a lot of conditions to pursue the major they want, so keep persevering and pursuing it.

Especially during the filmmaking process, Truong Minh Chanh – an HSU student worked directly with director Tran Huu Tan. Commenting on HSU student, the director said: “I don’t see Chanh as a personal assistant but as an associate. The filmmaking process has scenes that need editing, I still discuss and listen to feedback from my collaborators. I highly appreciate the working spirit of Chanh and the young people today.”
