HSU students interact with director Nguyen Quang Dung about the movie ” Song of the South”

On the afternoon of October 6, the Department of Communication Technology Management, Faculty of Design and Art of HSU organized a talk show with Director Nguyen Quang Dung about the film Song of the South. The close conversation helped students with a passion for filmmaking and cinema “pocket” more valuable information about the film industry.

Song of the South is a film in the historical – psychological – drama genre based on the novel of the same name by writer Doan Gioi with the gathering of famous actors such as Hong Anh, Hua Vi Van, Tran Thanh, Tuan Tran…. The film tells about the adventurous life of boy An. During the arduous and exciting journey to find his father with his companion named Co, he had the opportunity to meet the generous, spontaneous and chivalrous Southerners.
Director Nguyen Quang Dung is one of the leading directors with many successful movies.
Because the film’s setting is the Southwestern region in 1945, after the French colonialists returned to invade the South, the process of making the film was not easy. From the process of researching the work, how to adapt the novel into a movie script, how to choose roles, find actors, organize the scene, props, costumes of the characters… how to make everything in the right historical scenes but still ensuring artistic nature, all were shared by director Nguyen Quang Dung with the students.
In addition, director Nguyen Quang Dung also explained students’ questions such as: How to plan for risks when filming in river areas, props, the process of preparing props and sets. How long did the scene take, besides the challenges, what were the advantages for the crew…

“Besides the challenges of making a historical film, where every setting and people must be consistent with the year 1945, we also received enthusiastic support from local people. Many people waiting for this scene to finish asking where the next scene was filmed so they could follow. I think that’s the luckiest and happiest thing for filmmakers,” director Nguyen Quang Dung shared.
